Atlas Vac includes as standard equipment on all sealers effective October 2011 a redundant over temperature safety control system. This automatic system provides a separate thermocouple, control module (FM rated) and circuit connection directly to the standard AB Safety contactor. This AB safety contactor is also normally connected to the E-Stop circuit as well as “Heater Power On/Off” signal from the PLC. The standard automatic over temperature control circuit is controlled through the PLC and the normal thermocouple circuit to provide a signal to the safety contactor when temperature reaches a programmed maximum limit. The new redundant system is in parallel to the standard PLC automatic controls, as well as E-Stop, and is included on the HMI/OIT alarm list when the redundant control is tripped (factory installed units after October 2011).
Retrofit kits for the redundant system are now also available from Atlas Vac. The kit includes the pre-configured control device, dedicated thermocouple, enclosure fitting, and din rail mount as well as wiring recommended by Atlas Vac for all applications. The kit will fit most units manufactured with heater assemblies configured with the “top down” thermocouples which normally still have the older horizontal thermocouple well (unused) in the end of the heater assembly. There must be space provided on a din rail in the control enclosure for proper mounting of the hardware. Just in case there is no room on an existing rail, a short piece of din rail is also included. The kit includes a schematic. No program changes to the PLC or HMI are required therefore re-validation of the PLC operating program is not normally required. Units shipped from Atlas Vac since late 2011 include alarm notification on the HMI screen alarm history in addition to the illuminated indication seen on the added control device mounted in the control enclosure.
Atlas Vac units manufactured after mid-2008 with serial numbers starting with AV---- are automatically covered as a warranty policy extension. Contact your Atlas Vac engineer for information concerning how to receive a no charge field retrofit kit to add this feature to your AV---- s/n sealer.
